ARA First Step Home   

As a resident of the ARA First Step Home you will be entitled to certain rights and privileges, and you will be expected to adhere to certain house rules which experience has shown to be necessary to the happy and successful operation of the home. We earnestly request your fullest cooperation for your own sake.

1. Completion of a primary program (minimum 28 days) within the last year.
2. An honest and sincere desire to gain and maintain sobriety.
3. The need for food, shelter, and an atmosphere of friendly understanding.
4. Ability and willingness to accept gainful employment.

There is a weekly fee for room and board payment of which must be considered the resident's first obligation. Assuming this responsibility is considered a very important part of the rehabilitation program. The resident is helping themselves and others by paying their share for the cost of the operation of the home.

Since the home is a cooperative effort, all residents are expected to help with household and other chores.

Residents are expected to seek gainful employment.

Residents are expected to pay their accounts one week in advance.

Medical and psychiatric services for certain alcoholic related problems are available outside the home. Residents are encouraged to avail themselves of these services and are given assistance in finding the most suitable ones.

There are three meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous held at the Home each week. Attendance at meetings is considered a requirement of residence in the Home. Statistics show that those who attend AA meetings regularly are the most successful in maintaining sobriety.

Residents are accepted without regard to race, color, national origin, gender, sexual orientation, or handicap, provided the program requirements are met.
